The message continues after the songs are over

Just when you think the music world no longer takes on any social responsibility, Rock for Choice emerges to make people aware of the dangers in our potentially anti-choice society.
This past Sunday at the Cook College Center the Feminist Majority Foundation, the RU Women's Political Caucus, Animal Sounds, and a socially conscious Rutgers' student presented a Rock for Choice benefit concert.
Rock for Choice events are designed to help raise awareness about the government's apparent and subtle control over women's bodies The concerts successfully bring people together where they can learn more about organizations that are willing to stand up for women's rights.
New York City based Shrieking Violets opened and conveyed the purpose of the event. One of their original songs was about the "sexual harassment women [encounter] everyday on the streets of New York," they announced.
Through their lyrics they "responded" to harassers by shouting empowering words that many women only wish they could say when accosted on the street.
The band performed a powerful instrumental piece that allowed each of the three members to display her musical talent. After about a half-hour's worth of other original material, they did an impressive cover of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' "Bad Reputation."
Shrieking Violets ended their set by asking everyone to write to government officials about social issues. They said that the Clinton administration seems more liberal than its predecessor and that it will be up to the public to keep it that way.
