Shrieking Violets
by Joe Kowalski
New York's own Shrieking Violets are three sensitive girls with big amps (by the way, that's girls, not grrrls) who have a poppy punk sound that's very down to earth and kinda refreshing to hear from this part of the country -- "Do You Remember?" can definitely be traced to The Love Rock Explosion associated with Olympia, WA, and reminds me of something that could fit in with K Records' International Pop Underground Series. The other three tunes are more punky, and sometimes on the serious side except for "Bad Chinese Food," a snotty little number about ptomaine poisoning that's cool enough to rhyme "skeevey" and "Peavey." Okay, shoot me, I'm into clever stuff like that. Neato. (7") - JK
